Richard Spanton Jr and Chrissie met in 2003 and were married a few years later. They gave birth to their first son after 5 years of struggles and infertility.
In 2005, Richard found a beautiful 130 acre horse farm for sale in Rockton, IL. They purchased the property in September of 2005. That year in December, the quaint little 1858 limestone home, adjacent to their property, went up for sale. Rich and Chrissie immediately thought of a bed & breakfast but soon realized that the house was in need of some big repairs. They purchased the home with great ideas in mind. That same month Richard Spanton Jr asked Chrissie to take his hand in marriage.
In March of 2006 Rich was sitting at the kitchen table and said “Chrissie, can you get me a sketch pad?” In about 6 hours Copperstone Inn was on paper and it was beautiful. Wasting no time, they broke ground in July of 2006.
Fast forward 2 1/2 years and Copperstone Inn is complete. Richard Spanton Jr and his wife Chrissie Spanton are proud to be owners and proprietors of the Copperstone Inn, which boasts 7 rooms, some with Jacuzzi tubs for two, king beds and double vertical spa showers, as well as flat screen TVs with Dish Network in each room. Chrissie and Rich also decided to install a mini spa and a bar/game room to the bed and breakfast to keep guests coming back. They even got creative with themes for each room. He and his wife came up with the Farmers Quarters, Sundance Suite, 1858 Limestone Loft, The Queens Retreat, Northwoods Suite, Apple Cellar and Wine Cellar. Rich and Chrissie did all of the decorating of the inn themselves. They are also very passionate about keeping the inn and land green and eco-friendly. No pesticides or fertilizers are used on their land or in the inn. They use all natural products within the inn.
With all the renovations and additions that Rich and Chrissie made to the building, the Copperstone Inn now spans more than 9,000 square feet. The inn is intended to give the comfortable feeling of home with lush decor and antique furnishings. Richard Spanton Jr, along with his wife Chrissie and mother Saundra, who share in the duties of running the Copperstone Inn, say it is one of the most luxurious bed and breakfasts in the USA.
Richard Spanton Jr has never been content to work on one project at a time, he and his family are extremely excited to be devoting their time to this new bed and breakfast.
"It does worry me sometimes when that sketch pad comes out, but it is also nice to see my husbands amazing vision come to fruission". Chrissie Spanton
